Surviving Lockdown: Positive Attitude leads to Positive Changes

58 days since the UK went on lockdown…

Where is your head at? Are you coping with this new ‘lifestyle’ we all find ourselves in?

I can’t deny that the first 2 weeks were hard. The ‘not knowing’ factor affected all parts of my daily life leaving me questioning everything I was doing! Can we go out? Can we see our friends, our families? Can we exercise outside more than once a day? Can we still go to work? Will we lose our jobs? Will we have a roof over our heads? Will we survive this?

On week three, I had to make a decision: let this situation overwhelm me and crumble or rise-up to the challenge and take control! I opted for the latter and even though there are moments, sometimes days, when all I want to do is sleep and shut the world out, I force myself to get up a seize the day!

The first thing I put in place was a daily routine, even getting my mum involved. While I am working from home, she has been placed on furlough and I knew, both for my sake and hers, that we had to have a structure to our day/week to survive the lockdown.

Second thing I looked at was our nutrition and daily exercise. It was important for me to keep going with my journey to a healthier me, even during lockdown. For the last year I have been working hard getting in shape and creating a balanced lifestyle. I really wasn’t going to let COVID19 destroy all the hard work accomplished so far.

Thirdly…baking day (usually on a Wednesday, but given the right motivation I have seen myself getting up at 6am on a Saturday morning and make scones)! Nine weeks have gone by and I have mastered a banana loaf, fruit scones, victoria sandwich cake & pancakes…Mary Berry would be so proud of me! However, I have also had a few disasters…muffins, tarts & biscuits (if anyone has any easy-to follow recipes send them my way…I need all the help I can get!) are definitely not my forte!

And finally, we started a list of all the things we wanted to do around the house that for months (if not years) we’ve been putting off! Results being that our home is looking great. Decluttering our lives has had such a positive impact on our mental wellbeing too, like everything else we set in motion when lockdown began.

I don’t know what the next phase will look like, but keeping a positive head has lead to positive changes. We are not just surviving but we are learning and growing every day and hopefully that will make for a better future.

Stay home.

Be safe.

…and take care of each other.
