For those of you that know me, you know that I love travelling to Italy. Part of my summer trip this year was to a new place called Lido di Jesolo. A place that I have heard so much about thanks to the Wilson’s sisters who have been holidaying there for the last 10 years. I was so curious to find out by myself the fascination with this place and why the girls – along with mamma Wilson, papa’ Wilson & co. – go back to the same place every year.
First of all, let me tell you how easy it is to get to Lido di Jesolo from Scotland. Both Ryanair (Venice Treviso) and EasyJet (Venice Marco Polo) fly to Venice direct which means that in less than 3 hours you are in sunny Italy. The express bus services are excellent from both airports, and reasonably priced too at about €6.70 from Marco Polo & €10.50 from Venice Treviso both for a single ticket.
With its 15km-long beach, Lido di Jesolo is a greatplace for a weekend away with friends or a family holiday. Being close toVenice, Milan & Verona is a great destination should you wish to combine abeach holiday with some sightseeing.
The beach itself is great. Tourism being the main industryin the area you can really see how well-kept and clean everything is. There areplenty beach bars along the stretch, and also plenty of amenities & funactivities for grown-ups & little ones alike.
We were a little unfortunate with the weather as it rainedon our first day, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying ourselves as we sat inone of the beach bars along the promenade and with an espresso & cornettoin-hand we watched the world go by in true Italian style! Not a bad way tospend a morning if you ask me!

We spent most afternoons eating, drinking and eating somemore (or I should say drinking some more…the girls are really a bad influenceon me!). On the main corso there are loads of restaurants, bars and gelateriasfor you to go wild in. We opted for a family run restaurant on Via GiuseppeVerdi called Le Rondini. Everything is wonderful and freshly cooked.I particularly enjoyed the Risotto ai Frutti di Mare.
For our drinking sessions, there is really only one place to go and that’s the Amalfi Hotel (which is also the hotel where we stayed for the weekend). Now don’t expect anything grand. The hotel itself is very retro…you really feel like you are stepping back in time, but honestly that adds to the charming exterior of the place! What really makes the place is the atmosphere and the people working there…they make you feel so welcome and the cocktails are really delicious! Try going for happy hour when you get 2 for 1 cocktails 😊 personal favourites of mine the Oceanic and Capiroska alla Fragola!
If you like singing along to cheesy tunes, tasty drinks and a fun-filled evening I would head to Hotel Amalfi for an aperitivo and after dinner drinks. But don’t forget the evening is still young and the Italians do like to party until the early hours. Around midnight head to Marina Club for some more drinks and loads of dancing. Now I am not a fan of going out clubbing, but this place is fantastic in true Italian style. Drinking outside under the stars where you can relax with friends, mingle with total strangers and dance until dawn!
One thing’s for sure I am already looking to go back in Septemberthis year!
